NBA Mock Draft Pick #3 - Dragan Bender, PF, Maccabi Tel Aviv
The Celtics, Suns and Jazz have agreed to a trade involving the #3, #4 and #23 picks in this SB Nation Mock Draft.
The Celtics acquired Jazz forward Gordon Hayward and cash. The Suns acquire the rights to the #3 pick. The Jazz get the rights to the #4, #23 and #28 pick alongside Jonas Jerebko's non-guaranteed deal.
SBNation's Suns blog, Bright Side of the Sun, explain the trade and subsequent pick
Dragan Bender may be the next Toni Kukoc or Andre Kirilenko, or he may also be the next Nikolos Tsikishvili or Darko Milicic. But few prospects come into the NBA with the range of skill sets and physical tools of Dragan Bender. He just might end up the best player in the 2016 draft when all is said and done.
The mitigation of risk against Bender busting out of the league is that he has a reputation of putting out 100% effort all the time, and has a high basketball IQ. Add those qualities to someone who pass, dribble, shoot, rebound, run the floor and defend in space at the level of Bender, and you've got a potential All-Star and building block next to Devin Booker for years and years to come. This trade was a no-brainer when it came down to it. The Suns are a better team for the next decade with Bender in the mix.
Ridiculous Upside analysis: Although the option of staying at the #4 pick and hoping that the Celtics doesn't pick him would definitely be there, this was still a solid selection by the Suns. Bender has such ridiculous upside due to the mixture of his motor, shooting ability and size. Bender puts 100% effort on both the offensive and defensive end. Alongside that, his 7'1 frame and smooth perimeter stroke could allow him to be a future NBA All-Star.
